Introduction:

The task for the final project was to create an AR app using Unity with the skills learn through our tutorial classes. This is a walkthrough of the process of creating an AR furniture placement app using Unity, providing users with a seamless experience to visualize and experiment with furniture in their living spaces.

Figure 1 - Importing 3D Models into Unity

The process starts with Unity, an advanced game development engine that incorporates augmented reality functionalities in a seamless manner. By making the most on Unity's AR Foundation, we established the groundwork for Furniture AR, a user-friendly application that supports the addition and visualization of household furnishings.

Figure 2 - Home Screen

The UI/UX design is essential in improving the overall user experience. With the sole intention of minimalism, our home interface features only one button: "Add Furniture." This straightforwardness guarantees that users can promptly engage in the immersive experience free of needless distraction.

Figure 3 - Functionality of App

When the user selects "Add Furniture," the true transformation occurs. The application uses plane detection via Unity's AR Foundation to scan the floor, thereby furnishing a stable surface suitable for the positioning of furniture. With a few touches, a modular sofa appears on the floor, enabling users to visualize its real-time compatibility with their space.

At this point, the app only supports a modular sofa and an Eames chair; however, it is designed to be compatible with a growing collection of furniture. Consumers have the ability to effortlessly transition between these alternatives, customizing their digital environment to suit their specific preferences.

Figure 4 - Payment Page

We recognize the significance of a seamless purchasing experience. By utilizing the money icon located in the upper-left corner, users are directed to the payment page, facilitating a smooth transition from the space design process to the production of their preferred items. This integration serves to improve user convenience while also contributing to the app's sustainability.

Unity's adaptability and versatility were crucial in the realization of Furniture AR. I utilized the platform's comprehensive AR Foundation, extensive asset store, and collaborative development functionalities to produce an application that plays with the standards of augmented reality.

Developing AR with Unity as a student in this discipline has been an enlightening experience. Unity's powerful features and intuitive interface have enabled me to effortlessly manifest my design concepts.

In summary, the process of developing  AR utilizing Unity has not only produced an adequate augmented reality application but has also broadened my comprehension of user interface and user experience design. The platform's extensive feature set have been crucial in achieving design concepts in an interactive, tangible form. The project has served as a demonstration of the boundless opportunities that result from the combination of creative thinking and innovation with modern technology. I am eager to apply this acquired knowledge to my prospective efforts in the field of UI/UX design.
