INSTRUCTIONS

TASK 1: PRODUCTION SHOOT

As a student, one of the major benefits of shooting on campus as an actor is the natural familiarity with the environment. Knowing the campus environment well helps you act like a real student. I am able to move around easily and really feel like you're part of the scene. Universities are busy places where students, teachers, and staff are always doing their daily tasks. Getting through crowds, managing noise interruptions, and organizing shoot timetables can be quite challenging. Though these challenges can be tough, they offer a chance to improve adaptability, patience, and communication skills, which are important.

Figure 1 - Editing Scenes

Editing each scene after it has been shot is an important stage in post-production because it enables a concentrated and thorough approach to plotting the tale. I am able to properly portray the intended emotions, timing, and narrative arcs inside each scene by painstakingly placing the film in the desired order. Reviewing the video that was taken during the production shoot is the first stage in editing each scene into place. I meticulously go over each scene's several takes, evaluating the actors' performances, the cameras' perspectives, and other technical details. To achieve the desired impact, the best takes that complement the vision and the overall narrative must be chosen. This careful selection procedure lays the groundwork for constructing a fluid and eye-catching scenario. Following the selection of the best takes, scene assembly and shot sequencing start. This entails arranging the shots in the intended sequence while taking shot size, camera movement, and continuity into account. The goal is to construct an engaging scenario that is coherent and aesthetically dynamic.

Colour grading is the process of modifying and refining the colours in the video to attain a specific appearance or atmosphere. Post-production is a crucial part of the process because it helps to improve the visual storytelling, maintain a uniform aesthetic, and elicit particular emotions. The Lumetri Colour panel in Premiere Pro is a really strong tool that gives a lot of controls and adjustments to change the colours of the footage. I experimented with the basic controls like exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, and saturation to create a good base for the look I wanted.

Figure 3 - HSL Secondary

In Adobe Premiere Pro, HSL Secondary is a tool that lets m3 accurately modify individual colours in the video footage. At HSL Secondary, you can have precise control over each hue, saturation, and luminance separately. Being precise helps me focus on particular elements in a shot, making it more visually appealing and improving the storytelling.

Figure 4 - Sound & Music

I wanted to be cohesive and synchronized, it's important to make sure the music matches up with the timing and rhythm of the video. I analyze the visual cues, transitions, and key moments in the footage to figure out when the music should begin and end. I tried out various cuts and edits to determine the most effective synchronization.

Figure 5 - Stabilization

The Warp Stabiliser effect in Adobe Premiere Pro is a powerful tool that is used to stabilise shaky footage. All I do is drag and drop the effect onto the shaky clip, and then Premiere Pro analyses the footage to reduce camera movement and unwanted shakes. I tried out the different stabilisation options like Smoothness and Method to get the stability I wanted without making the scene look too stiff.

TASK 2: TIKTOK

MY UNDERSTANDING OF TIKTOK

TikTok has become super popular among 'Gen Z' because of its cool features like short videos, easy editing tools, and a personalised algorithm. TikTok has been promoting a culture that's all about innovation, inclusion, and keeping up with the latest trends. The platform creates content that's all about the latest trends, dances, and challenges. On TikTok, Gen Z humour is all about things we can relate to, references to pop culture, and calling out society. The humour of Gen Z has a big impact on memes, viral challenges, ads, and old-school comic events. TikTok has totally changed how people use digital humour and has become a safe haven for hilarious and unique ideas. TikTok has totally influenced how young people act, think, and dress. It's become a place where people can figure out who they are, express themselves, and swap stories with others who are into the same things. TikTok has a huge impact on fashion, music, language, and other social media platforms, as well as mainstream media. TikTok has really shaken up the traditional media and marketing game. Businesses and influencers are using the platform's culture to connect with younger audiences in cool new ways that still align with their brand values.

Figure 7 - Favorite TikTok Videos

I chose these three Tik Tok videos as my favourites because they really secured Gen Z's sense of humour. Even though the humour can be obscure, Gen Z usually enjoys feeling comfortable with the unknown. Using music in these movies helps to make them more popular and create different emotions just through the sound.

IDEA

As time goes by, our memories tend to fade away. However, thanks to digital media, we now have a way to capture and preserve them. I wanted to capture and preserve the moments of happiness, laughter, and excitement that we experienced together by making a TikTok video edit. With the help of visual storytelling and the dynamic nature of TikTok, I can compress months or even years of memories into an engaging and concise format. This way, we can relive those precious moments over and over again.

EDITING

I found Cap Cut, a popular video editing app, to be really helpful in creating my TikTok video. I really loved using it because the interface was so easy to understand. I was able to do a lot of editing and there were so many cool effects to choose from. It really helped me express my creativity and make my ideas come to life.

Figure 8 - Editing On CapCut

I wanted to make my campus TikTok video stand out and look visually appealing, so I thought it would be cool to use the torn paper effect. This effect gives the impression of paper fragments that are torn and layered, moving across the screen. It adds depth and texture to the visuals.

Figure 9 - Editing On CapCut

I used Cap Cut to edit my TikTok video smoothly. I brought in the footage that I had recorded on campus and arranged it in the timeline of the app. I was able to use Cap Cut's editing features to trim and arrange clips, adjust their speed, and fine-tune the overall timing and pacing.
